Discovering the Charm of Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, South Carolina

Nestled in the picturesque Isle of Palms, South Carolina, the Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort offers the quintessential beach vacation experience where your car can remain parked from arrival to departure. A part of the Destination by Hyatt brand, this resort not only provides direct beach access and multiple dining options within walking distance but also enriches your stay with luxury amenities like championship golf courses and a top-tier spa.

During a recent three-day weekend, my family and I delved into everything the resort had to offer. The Sweetgrass Inn features 153 rooms on its four-acre site within the larger 1,600-acre oceanfront property of Wild Dunes Resort. Options range from king rooms and double queen rooms to one-bedroom suites, with additional vacation rentals available for larger groups.

Our double queen room was spacious enough to accommodate a travel crib without feeling cramped, featuring a large flat-screen TV and a balcony that offered stunning views of the pool and ocean—a real hit with the kids from the moment we entered.

Dining at the resort is a delight with several choices. Oystercatcher, located adjacent to the lobby of Sweetgrass Inn, serves up exquisite seafood dishes like fried oysters and grilled swordfish. Nearby, Coastal Provisions offers a delectable surf and turf menu highlighted by filet mignon with truffle butter. For casual meals, Laughing Gull provides poolside dining, and Coastal Crust pizzeria is a must for pizza enthusiasts. Notably, the resort has partnered with local brewery Commonhouse Aleworks to create the Wild Dunes Golden Isle Lager, a refreshing craft beer available throughout the resort.

Activities abound for guests of all ages and interests. The beach and pool offer relaxation or recreation depending on your preference, while the Sweetgrass Spa provides a serene escape. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy 36 holes designed by Tom Fazio, and there are also tennis and pickleball courts. Families will appreciate the playground and Turtle Cove, a game room that transforms into a make-your-own stuffed turtle experience in the evenings.

For those interested in shopping, the on-site SALT Boutique features Lowcountry-inspired apparel and accessories, and an art gallery adds a touch of culture to your stay. Additionally, Charleston’s vibrant scene is just a short drive away for those looking to explore beyond the resort.

With its blend of southern charm, family-friendly activities, and luxurious amenities, Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort is a premier destination for those seeking a memorable beach getaway in South Carolina.
