Dornier Technology appoints Joseph Espiritu as COO

Philippines maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company Dornier Technology has appointed Joseph Espiritu as Chief Operating Officer and will utilise his expertise to grow the business by providing tailored solutions for airlines and air operators as the commercial aviation market recovers.

Espiritu is an industry veteran with more than 18 years of experience, including more than a decade in management and senior roles.

He was previously deputy general manager and vice president of operations at Cebu Pacific Air’s aircraft maintenance organisation, Aviation Partnership Philippines (APLUS).

Espiritu has also worked in senior positions at Lufthansa Technik Philippines, handling heavy maintenance for Lufthansa Group airlines and other foreign airlines. In addition, he has overseas experience, having been a powerplant planning engineer at Kuwait Airways.

Espiritu said: “I am excited about the opportunity to bring my knowledge, skills and expertise to Dornier Technology, an MRO organisation that is expanding its customer base across the Asia region at a time when the commercial aviation industry is recovering.

“I see a lot of potential for Dornier Technology, because the aviation industry is now growing and the Philippines has skilled and qualified maintenance engineers and technicians.

“I believe my knowledge in the MRO sector allows me to contribute in terms of developing new capabilities for the company, which is being positioned as a centre of excellence for the maintenance of narrowbodies such as Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737 family aircraft, as well as a centre of excellence for the maintenance for turboprops such as ATR 42/72 and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Dash 8 series.”

Dornier Technology is certified to do line and heavy maintenance for the following aircraft types: Airbus A320-family; Boeing 737 classics such as the -200, -300, -400, -500 series; ATR 42 and ATR 72; British Aerospace/Avro BAe 146/RJ, Dornier 328 and Let 410.

Espiritu says the company has experience meeting the needs of both low-cost carriers and full-service airlines in addition to meeting the needs of smaller regional operators.

He said: “We understand the importance of operational costs, so we will adjust our maintenance fees based on just what you need, while not compromising on the quality. And since our services can be customised and individually priced, our pricing is competitive, and that gives us an edge over our competitors.

Dornier Technology, which was established in 2008 and now employs 180 personnel, has its heavy maintenance base at Clark International Airport outside Manila, and also has line maintenance stations at other airports around the country, including Manila, Cebu, Kalibo, Bohol. Tagbilaran, Davao and Puerto Princesa.

The MRO company is certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) as an approved maintenance organisation as well as by other civil aviation regulators. These include: South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT) and Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Besides maintenance, Dornier Technology provides technical training, aviation consulting services, fleet management, engine support and maintenance of aero systems, such as avionics.
