DSV Expands Operations with Arizona Flights to Reduce Semiconductor Lead Times

DSV has added Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to its freighter network as it looks to reduce lead times for semiconductor shipments by bypassing more congested airports.

The new Boeing 747 freighter flights will be part of DSV’s Atlas Air-operated air charter network and the first regular air cargo charter service in the area.

Flights will connect with Latin America and Europe, DSV said.

DSV will also have access to its own leased air cargo hangar and has its own ground-handling equipment.

The forwarder said the new service would support the semiconductor industry in Arizona and enable cargo to move efficiently by avoiding congested airports elsewhere.

DSV Air & Sea US president Niels Larsen said: “The industrial developments we are seeing in Arizona right now are quite significant. This makes it a strategically important place for us to be, which is why we are now upscaling our operations in the area through the new air charter routes.

“With these new service offerings, DSV can provide more routes to LATAM and Mexico. Furthermore, the Mesa airport plays perfectly into our strategy of using tier two airports to avoid long lead times, and it will also have a strong strategic importance for our ability to serve customers in the semiconductor segment.”

The launch of the new service comes shortly after DSV announced the acquisition of US logistics firms S&M Moving Systems West and Global Diversity Logistics as part of efforts to cater for the semiconductor industry.

Both companies are headquartered in Arizona and are run by the same family.

They have a total of 130 employees and operate across 11 sites in Oregon and Arizona.

The firms provide services within domestic road freight, international air and sea freight, warehousing, tradeshow logistics and specialist solutions to support the semiconductor industry.
