Dunton Hot Springs Reveals Revamped Saloon and Dance Hall in Colorado

Nestled in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, Dunton Hot Springs has recently unveiled a significant upgrade to its historic saloon and dance hall, a facility steeped in the lore of the 1800s and marked by Butch Cassidy’s signature on its bar. The property, located in a restored mining town, underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation led by the renowned architecture and interior design firm, Waldo Works.

Tom Bartlett of Waldo Works shared his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We were tasked with redesigning the way Dunton caters to its guests, and the results are truly delightful. The blend of historical charm with modern luxury makes these spaces not only timeless but also innovative, ensuring guests an extraordinary experience.”

As part of the renovation, the saloon now features a new open kitchen and bar, enhancing the guest experience by allowing visibility into the culinary process. The updated bar sports oil-cloth fronts and zinc tops, while the kitchen boasts cast-glass walls. The dining area, adjacent to the kitchen, is fitted with olive green director’s chair-style seating and unique light fixtures crafted from red wagon wheels.

The dance hall, previously a separate entity, has been seamlessly integrated into the dining room, featuring custom camel-colored leather banquettes and barn doors for privacy during private events. The addition of a new wine room displays Dunton’s impressive collection of fine wines.

Aesthetic enhancements include custom floral-patterned drapery, vertically striped wallpaper, olive bead-boarding, and a ceramic ceiling inspired by 1890s designs from New York City’s Hotel Chelsea. Complementing these are honey-stained wooden beams, original metallic ceiling panels, and a curated selection of taxidermy and historic artworks that enrich the saloon’s ambiance.

This refresh not only elevates the guest experience but also preserves the historical essence of Dunton Hot Springs, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of adventure, history, and luxury in the heart of Colorado’s rugged terrain.
