EASA Lifts Israel Airspace Avoidance, Urges Risk Monitoring
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has lifted its recommendation for airlines to avoid Israeli airspace, issuing an updated Conflict Zone Information Bulletin (CZIB) on October 9, 2024, which will remain in effect until October 31, 2024.
While the airspace is no longer restricted, EASA advises airlines to implement stringent risk assessments and continuous monitoring processes for each flight operating over Israel. The updated CZIB emphasizes that operators should evaluate the level of risk for each flight and decide whether to continue operations with mitigations or avoid the affected airspace entirely.
EASA recommends closely monitoring developments and following all aeronautical updates issued by Israel.
The original CZIB was issued on September 28, 2024, following heightened tensions and air strikes targeting Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, including an attack that resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. EASA will continue monitoring the situation to reassess the risks for EU airlines.
