easyJet Launches Six New Routes for Summer 2025
easyJet has unveiled plans to introduce six new routes from four UK airports for the northern summer of 2025, alongside expanding its UK-based fleet. This strategic expansion includes the deployment of an additional Airbus A320 family aircraft at its Bristol Airport (BRS) hub in the west of England, expected to create around 400 new jobs. Currently, easyJet operates out of 21 UK airports, offering 585 routes to 136 destinations across Europe and North Africa.
Announcing the expansion on December 11, 2024, the budget airline outlined its new services, which will include flights to Milan-Linate Airport (LIN) from both Manchester (MAN) and Edinburgh (EDI) airports. Additionally, easyJet will launch two new routes from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Gibraltar (GIB) and Bordeaux (BOD). The expansion in Bristol will facilitate two new routes to Palermo Airport (PMO) in Italy and Almeria Airport (LEI) in Spain.
The introduction of new routes to Milan-Linate Airport is made possible by the establishment of a five-aircraft base at Linate, following approval by the European Commission for easyJet to take over slots at Milan-Linate and Rome-Fiumicino airports. This is part of a transaction between ITA Airways and Lufthansa, as reported by AeroTime. Consequently, easyJet plans to open a new three-aircraft base at Rome-Fiumicino on March 30, 2025. This base will join existing Italian hubs in Milan-Malpensa (MXP) and Naples (NPL), broadening the airline’s connectivity to key Italian cities.
Flights from Manchester and Edinburgh to Milan-Linate are scheduled to commence on March 30, 2025, operating up to seven days a week year-round. These new routes will complement easyJet’s existing services to Milan-Malpensa, enhancing connectivity and offering passengers more options. Furthermore, easyJet will increase the frequency of flights from London-Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Milan-Linate from one to two daily departures, providing greater flexibility for travelers.
From Birmingham, easyJet will launch flights to Bordeaux on May 1, 2025, and to Gibraltar on June 1, 2025. The Bordeaux route will offer twice-weekly departures throughout the summer, while the Gibraltar route will operate year-round. In Bristol, easyJet will commence flights to Almeria in Spain on June 24, 2025, and to Palermo, Sicily on June 26, 2025, both with twice-weekly departures, enhancing the airline’s presence in southern Europe.
In addition to new routes, easyJet is expanding its fleet at Bristol Airport by adding a 19th Airbus A320 family aircraft. This expansion will support the launch of new routes to Palermo and Almeria. The additional aircraft will join those being deployed at Manchester, Edinburgh, and Birmingham airports for summer 2025. Furthermore, easyJet is adding three aircraft at its new UK base at London-Southend Airport (SEN), set to open by the end of March 2025.
Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Country Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: “Following another consecutive record summer [in 2024], easyJet is continuing to grow in the UK next year with more aircraft, enabling us to offer an even greater choice of flights and package holidays for our customers across the country. Our investment in two new bases in Italy will also benefit our customers in the UK, providing great value and convenient connectivity to major European cities, whether they’re traveling for leisure or business, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”
This expansion reflects easyJet’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings and supporting economic growth within the UK. By adding new routes and increasing its fleet, easyJet aims to meet the rising demand for travel and provide more options for its passengers, reinforcing its position as a leading budget airline in the region.
