Ecuador’s Equair completes certification, launches
Equair (Quito Int’l) commenced scheduled flight operations early on Monday, January 10, after securing its air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Ecuadorian civil aviation authority (Consejo Nacional de Aviación Civil – CNAC) last week. The start-up had initially planned to complete its certification and launch in late December only for COVID to thwart those plans.
Using its pair of B737-700s, Equair currently offers scheduled return flights from Quito Int’l to each of Guayaquil as well as Baltra Island and San Cristóbal in the Galapagos Islands. According to the ch-aviation schedules module, other operators active in Ecuador’s local market include LATAM Airlines Ecuador, Avianca Airlines Ecuador, and Aeroregional.
While it has set its focus on offering competitive prices in the domestic Ecuadorian market, Equair’s operations specifications allow it to operate internationally. However, it has not yet alluded to any international aspirations.
