Edelweiss Air Receives First Airbus A350-900 for Fleet Upgrade

Edelweiss Air has received its first Airbus A350-900, marking the start of its fleet modernization plan. The aircraft, HB-IHF (msn 363), arrived in Zurich on March 13 after a ferry flight from Lourdes/Tarbes, according to Flightradar24.
Previously operated by LATAM Airlines Brasil between 2019 and 2021, the 5.3-year-old jet was retired after LATAM phased out its A350 fleet. Lufthansa Group, parent company of Swiss International Air Lines, later acquired the aircraft from Deucalion Aviation. It was originally configured for 339 passengers, with 30 in business class, 63 in economy plus, and 246 in economy.
Edelweiss Air plans to introduce the A350 into service on April 1, 2025, initially operating short-haul flights across Europe and Türkiye for crew training. Its long-haul debut is set for May 15, 2025, on the Zurich–Las Vegas route.
The airline will replace its five A340-300s with A350-900s by mid-2027, enhancing efficiency and sustainability. Edelweiss Air also operates fourteen A320-200s, per ch-aviation data.
With the addition of the fuel-efficient A350, Edelweiss aims to improve passenger experience while aligning with Lufthansa Group’s strategy to modernize its long-haul fleet.
