Eland Moose Debuts on Holland America Alaska Cruises

This summer, Holland America Line will introduce Eland, a new plush moose that will debut on its Alaska cruises, giving guests an adorable memento to take home. Starting in April, Eland will be available for purchase aboard all six ships cruising in Alaska. In addition, the stuffed moose will later be offered at Denali Lodge, further expanding the opportunity for passengers to collect this unique souvenir.
Eland is more than just a charming plush toy—it is a symbol of Holland America Line’s commitment to protecting the wildlife of the region. The name “eland” is a nod to the company’s European heritage, as it is the Dutch word for “moose.” This thoughtful detail underlines the company’s connection to its roots while also highlighting its dedication to environmental stewardship in one of the world’s most stunning natural settings.
Guests will find that Eland fits perfectly into the overall onboard experience. In fact, the moose joins Lewie the Lion, another popular mascot that has been available for purchase on all Holland America ships year-round. With the addition of Eland, the cruise line is expanding its collection of branded souvenirs, creating a memorable way for travelers to remember their voyage through Alaska’s spectacular landscapes.
To celebrate the arrival of Eland, Holland America Line has announced a charitable initiative that will benefit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC). For every plush moose sold during the 2025 Alaska season, the company will donate $2 to the AWCC. This donation is part of a broader partnership that was formed in 2024 between Holland America Line and the conservation center. The AWCC is well known for its work in rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals, ensuring that Alaska’s unique wildlife is preserved for future generations.
In addition to the plush moose promotion, guests sailing with Holland America Line have the opportunity to participate in responsible wildlife encounters at the AWCC. Two specially curated shore excursions in Anchorage or Whittier include visits to the center, where travelers can experience hands-on activities such as feeding the resident moose and learning about its diet and behavior. These excursions are designed to be both educational and engaging, offering guests a deeper insight into the natural environment of Alaska and the importance of wildlife conservation.
Mirelle Reyes, one of the company’s senior executives, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative. She noted that the introduction of Eland reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance the guest experience while supporting important conservation causes. By blending travel with a commitment to sustainability, Holland America Line aims to create lasting memories for its passengers while also making a positive impact on the local ecosystem.
With its unique combination of fun, educational value, and environmental responsibility, the debut of Eland is expected to be a highlight of the 2025 Alaska season. Passengers can look forward to not only exploring the majestic beauty of Alaska but also to taking home a small piece of that adventure in the form of Eland, a reminder of the natural wonders and the vital importance of conservation.
