Electra Airways Aims for Expansion into the US Market

Electra Airways, a prominent ACMI/charter specialist based in Sofia, Bulgaria, has taken a significant step toward entering the lucrative US aviation sector. The airline recently submitted an application for a US Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) and exemption authority, signaling its intent to operate both scheduled and charter services to the United States.

While the application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) remains discreet about specific plans, a spokesperson from Electra Airways did confirm a strategic focus on collaborating with US airlines rather than their EU counterparts for operations to the United States.

Currently boasting a fleet of seven A320-200s, one A321-200, and one B737-300, Electra Airways has ambitious expansion plans. Earlier this year, the airline revealed its intention to double its A320 fleet to fifteen aircraft and concentrate exclusively on this aircraft type. As of now, the entire fleet is undergoing seasonal maintenance or is parked for the winter season.
