Embraer Teams Up with MROs for E-Jet Support
Embraer has announced strategic agreements with two Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) providers in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to enhance support for its E-Jet and E2 series of regional jets. The partnerships with SIA Engineering (Philippines) Corporation (SIAEC) and Fokker Services Group (FSG) will enable these authorized service centers to provide essential engineering support for the Embraer E-Jets currently in operation and those set to be delivered in the coming years.
Under the agreement with SIAEC, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines Engineering, the company’s facilities at Clark Airport (CRK) in the Philippines will become the first Embraer Authorized Service Center in the Asia-Pacific to perform MRO services for the E2 family of aircraft. SIAEC offers three hangars dedicated to MRO services and has been an authorized service center for Embraer’s first-generation E-Jets since 2017.
Frank Stevens, Vice President of Global MRO Centers for Embraer Services & Support, commented, “SIAEC has been a key partner for Embraer in the region in the last years. With this new agreement, SIAEC becomes even more strategic for the future of our company in the region, as the E2 fleet grows. We are very pleased with this step ahead on our long-term partnership.”
Jeremy Yew, SIAEC’s Senior Vice President of Base Maintenance, added, “We are delighted to extend our existing partnership with Embraer and play a key role in supporting their growth in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to providing quality and efficient base maintenance services to the E2 fleet at our facility in Clark.”
In addition, Fokker Services Asia, a subsidiary of Fokker Services Group, has also been appointed as an Embraer Authorized Service Center. Operating MRO services from five global locations, FSG will focus primarily on E190 aircraft at its facility in Singapore, located at Seletar International Airport (XSP). This agreement is expected to significantly enhance FSG’s capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region while expanding Embraer’s support network in this rapidly growing market.
Stevens remarked, “We are very happy to partner with Fokker Services Asia to offer a strategic additional location to our customers. This will potentially provide more capacity and capability and help us keep expanding Embraer’s Authorized Service Center footprint in Asia-Pacific.”
Leon Kouters, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at FSG, expressed enthusiasm over meeting the stringent requirements set forth in the contract, emphasizing the importance of being recognized as an Embraer Authorized Service Center.
Thomas Kennedy, Managing Director of Fokker Services Asia, noted that the Embraer certification will establish a new line of work for aircraft maintenance in the region. The presence of the first Embraer aircraft from Alliance Airlines (Australia) already in FSG’s hangar showcases their readiness and commitment.
Both agreements were finalized and announced at the Aviation Week MRO Asia Pacific 2024 event held in Singapore from September 24 to 26, 2024. Embraer views the expansion of its authorized servicing network in Asia as a crucial development in its growth strategy for the region.
The E-Jet fleets in the Asia-Pacific comprise both first-generation and next-generation E2 E-Jets, which are currently operated by airlines in Singapore, Australia, India, Myanmar, Japan, and China. Notably, Scoot, the budget arm of Singapore Airlines, has already begun operating E190-E2 jets, with additional aircraft scheduled for delivery soon.
According to Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook, passenger air traffic in Southeast Asia is projected to grow by 7.2% annually until 2043, highlighting the vital role of narrowbody jets in connecting the region and meeting increasing travel demands.
