Embraer has achieved a significant milestone in aviation with the successful first flight of its converted E190F, transitioning from passenger to freight service. The test flight took place in São José dos Campos, Brazil, and lasted approximately two hours, during which the aircraft underwent extensive evaluations.

The E190F, owned by Regional One, a U.S.-based leasing company, represents a key innovation in Embraer’s strategy to tap into the growing demand for cargo transport driven by global e-commerce. According to Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, “The E-Freighter program not only creates a new business avenue for Embraer but also aligns with the e-commerce sector’s need for efficient cargo transport solutions. We are excited about the rapid progress of our E190F and E195F models during the testing phase, which will soon offer our customers enhanced flexibility for quicker, decentralized delivery operations.”

This initial flight is part of a series of tests that the E190F must complete before it can officially enter operation. The aircraft has already successfully passed crucial ground pressurization and cargo loading tests, indicating promising performance capabilities.

Converted E-Jets like the E190F will offer over 50% more volume capacity and three times the range of large cargo turboprops, with up to 30% lower operating costs compared to narrowbody aircraft. The E190F and its counterpart, the E195F, can carry maximum structural payloads of 13,500 kg and 14,300 kg, respectively, combining under-floor and main deck capacities.

This breakthrough highlights Embraer’s commitment to innovation and its ability to meet the dynamic needs of the modern freight market, positioning the E-Freighter jets as vital assets for efficient cargo transportation.
