Emeril Lagasse has opened his newest restaurant, 34 Restaurant and Bar, in New Orleans, marking a career-first for the celebrity chef as it pays homage to his Portuguese heritage. Described as a “love letter” to his family’s roots, this restaurant is a tribute to the traditional flavors and dishes he grew up with.

Located at 710 Baronne Street, 34 Restaurant and Bar is designed to reflect Portugal’s cultural influence, with decor featuring Portuguese tiles and wood accents. The menu showcases authentic Portuguese cuisine, including standout dishes like bacalhau a bras (salt cod with potatoes, olives, and caviar), caldo verde (green soup), and arroz de pato (duck rice with chorizo and mushrooms).

Emeril’s son, E.J. Lagasse, played a significant role in bringing modern elements to the restaurant, such as a DJ booth to feature local and touring DJs.

Lagasse said the restaurant’s goal is to transport guests to Portugal while honoring the European influences found in New Orleans’ architecture and culture. The restaurant is open daily from 4 p.m., and reservations can be made via OpenTable.
