Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, has announced the introduction of a fourth daily flight between Dubai and Johannesburg, South Africa. This expansion comes shortly after the launch of a second daily Airbus A380 service on September 1, 2024, highlighting the airline’s commitment to enhancing connectivity between these key cities.

The new flight will commence on March 1, 2025, and will be operated using Emirates’ three-class Boeing 777-300ER, adding an additional 708 seats available daily. Flight EK767 will depart Dubai at 00:10, arriving in Johannesburg at 06:20. The return flight, EK768, will leave Johannesburg at 10:15, reaching Dubai at 20:15. Notably, this new service introduces the first morning departure from Johannesburg, catering to travelers seeking flexibility in their travel schedules.

Emirates stated that the additional flight “supports connectivity across the airline’s global network of over 140 destinations,” optimizing schedules to key regions, including Dubai, Thailand, India, and major European cities such as the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Germany.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, remarked, “South Africa has long been a popular destination for both leisure and business travelers connecting to and through Dubai. The fourth daily flight enables us to better serve the growing demand for travel to and from the market.” He expressed gratitude to South African authorities for their support in securing this new service, emphasizing that it reinstates capacity levels not seen since before the pandemic, with 49 weekly flights across three gateways.

In addition to increasing passenger capacity on this vital route, the new flight also enhances cargo capacity, offering 300 tons of freight capacity per week in the belly of the Boeing 777. Emirates SkyCargo, the airline’s freight division, transports key commodities such as fresh fruit, vegetables, chilled meat, dairy products, seafood, and fresh-cut flowers from Johannesburg, thereby stimulating the local economy and connecting South African businesses with global markets.

Emirates customers traveling to Johannesburg can access over 60 regional destinations in Africa through codeshare and interline agreements with various partners. The partnership with South African Airways, established in 1997, remains one of Emirates’ longest-standing collaborations, connecting through three major South African gateways—Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban—along with 12 destinations via Johannesburg alone. Additionally, the codeshare with Airlink further expands access to 44 regional cities.

Since starting flights to South Africa in June 1995, Emirates has significantly increased its presence in the market, carrying approximately 20 million passengers annually between South Africa and Dubai. This latest expansion not only reinforces Emirates’ commitment to enhancing air travel between these regions but also demonstrates the airline’s dedication to supporting South Africa’s tourism and economic growth initiatives.
