Emirates Airlines Bans Pagers and Walkie Talkies Amid Safety Concerns

Emirates Airlines has implemented a ban on passengers traveling with pagers and walkie talkies due to heightened safety concerns. In a travel update on its website on October 4, 2024, the airline announced that these items are prohibited on flights to, from, or via Dubai.

“All passengers traveling on Emirates flights are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie talkies in checked or cabin baggage. Items found in hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police,” the Dubai-based airline stated.

This escalation in safety protocols follows deadly attacks on Hezbollah, where pagers and walkie talkies linked to the group exploded in two separate incidents, resulting in over 30 fatalities. Although Israel is believed to be behind the attacks, it has not claimed responsibility for detonating the devices.

In addition to this ban, Emirates updated its travel guidance for Jordan, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon due to the ongoing complex military situation in the region. The airline will resume flights to Amman, Jordan, starting October 6, 2024, while flights from Iraq and Iran remain canceled through October 7, 2024. Passengers transiting through Dubai with final destinations in Iraq and Iran will not be accepted for travel until October 8, 2024.

Furthermore, Emirates flights to and from Beirut are canceled through October 15, 2024, with restrictions on passengers transiting through Dubai to Beirut until further notice.

“We continue to closely monitor the situation in the region and are in contact with the relevant authorities regarding developments,” Emirates Airlines stated, emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety.
