Emirates and Avianca have announced a new codeshare partnership, marking a significant development in global aviation connectivity. This collaboration is set to begin just as Emirates prepares to introduce its first passenger flights to Colombia, expanding its reach in South America.

Starting June 4, Avianca will place its code on flights operated by Emirates from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to key European hubs: Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), and Madrid Airport (MAD). Similarly, Emirates will code on Avianca’s flights from Bogotá El Dorado Airport (BOG) to these European destinations, as well as on routes connecting Cali and Medellin with Madrid.

Claudio Vélez, Chief Revenue Officer at Avianca, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting, “This collaboration will bring our region closer to Dubai via Europe and it will also strengthen Avianca’s operation in Barcelona, Madrid, and London Heathrow.”

The new route from DXB to BOG, set to commence on June 3, will operate daily with a stopover at Miami International Airport (MIA) and will utilize the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. This route not only introduces Emirates’ esteemed passenger service to Colombia but also adds a competitive edge on the Miami-Bogotá sector, currently served by American Airlines, Avianca, and LATAM Airlines Group.

Previously, Emirates had provided cargo service to Colombia, with operations routed through Mexico City Juarez International Airport in 2019. The passenger flights to Colombia will see Emirates expanding its South American network, which already includes Rio de Janeiro Galeao, Brazil, and Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini, Argentina.

This partnership between Emirates and Avianca is poised to enhance connectivity, offering passengers more seamless travel options between the Middle East, Europe, and South America, fostering greater cultural and economic exchanges.
