Emirates celebrates Kerala harvest season with treats and entertainment on board

Emirates will be celebrating the Kerala harvest season with new treats and in-flight entertainment on board.

The carrier will be serving authentic Onam dishes in all cabin classes on board flights to and from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai from 20-31 August.

The offering includes curated menus with distinctive flavours of Onam, traditional appetisers of sharkara upperi such as banana roasted in sweet jaggery and kaya varuthathu, crisp banana chips. Tasty dips will also be offered, such as kaalan, which is made of coconut, fresh yoghurt and yam, and cucumber pachadi, a garnished salad, and puli inji, a sweet and tangy ginger-based chutney.

First and Business Class passengers are also offered Kerala-style pappadams and piquant mango pickle.

Main courses include alleppey kozhi curry, a spiced chicken in coconut sauce served with avial, chemba rice and cabbage carrot thoran, and mutton sukha with chemba rice, erissery and bean thoran. First Class customers are also offered a mutton pepper fry.

Desserts include a creamy rice pudding served with roasted pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts and parippu payasam, a popular sweet lentil pudding topped with roasted coconut flakes.

The meals will be served on banana leaf dish liners to offer an authentic feel.

Emirates’ award-winning ice in-flight entertainment includes more than 45 Academy Award-winning films, over 2,000 movies, 650 TV shows, 4,000 hours of music, podcasts and audiobooks across 40 languages. The airline is also offering 18 Malayalam movies including award-winning titles such as Ela Veezha Poonchira, Hridayam and blockbusters Bro Daddy and 12th Man.
