Emirates SkyCargo Expands Fleet with Five More Boeing 777 Freighters
Emirates SkyCargo has announced on Oct. 21 an order for five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, expanding its capacity to meet rising global demand. The order, finalized in September 2024, brings Emirates’ total Boeing widebody order book to 249 airplanes, including 14 777 Freighters. The carrier plans to grow its freighter fleet to 21 Boeing 777 Freighters, nearly doubling its current fleet of 11 aircraft.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates’ Chairman and CEO, emphasized the investment’s importance, stating that the move supports the surge in demand for Emirates’ air cargo services and reflects Dubai’s prominence as a global logistics hub.
The Boeing 777 Freighter, capable of carrying 102 tonnes over 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles), is the leading twin-engine cargo jet in terms of range and capacity. This expansion will enhance Emirates SkyCargo’s ability to connect high-value cargo markets in the Middle East, U.S., and Europe.
Boeing forecasts a need for 2,845 additional freighters over the next 20 years due to global trade and e-commerce growth. The 777 Freighter remains Boeing’s best-selling freighter, with 275 units delivered to date.
