Emirates has announced plans to resume flights to Damascus, Syria, starting July 16, 2025, pending regulatory approval. The move marks the carrier’s return to Syria after more than a decade, following the suspension of operations in 2012 due to regional instability. The decision follows a detailed evaluation conducted in coordination with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority.

The airline will begin with three weekly flights between Dubai and Damascus, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, using its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft. The service will expand to four weekly flights from August 2 with the addition of a Saturday departure. Subject to further approval, Emirates aims to increase frequency to daily operations starting October 26. The 1,266-mile route will be served by a 302-seat aircraft configured with 38 business class seats and 264 in economy.

Flights will depart Dubai at noon as EK913 and arrive in Damascus at 14:10 local time. The return flight, EK914, will leave Damascus at 16:30 and land in Dubai at 20:30 the same day. These services are expected to provide enhanced connectivity between Syria and Emirates’ global network of nearly 150 destinations.

Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said the decision to return to Damascus underscores the airline’s support for Syria’s development. He noted the importance of reconnecting the Syrian diaspora in the Americas, Europe, and the Gulf with their homeland, enabling them to contribute their skills and resources to Syria’s recovery. The resumed flights will also support trade, investment, and tourism in sectors such as energy, construction, and agriculture.

In 2024, bilateral trade between the UAE and Syria reached $680 million, reflecting a 23% increase from the previous year. The airline believes that the resumption of air services will further stimulate economic cooperation. Emirates previously served the Syrian capital from 1988 until suspending flights in 2012, transporting over 2.1 million passengers during that time.

The airline also highlighted its ongoing codeshare partnership with flydubai, which will complement the Damascus schedule and offer travelers more flexibility across the region. The service will enhance access not just to Syria, but also to wider connections through Dubai.

The resumption of flights to Damascus aligns with Emirates’ broader regional network strategy, which currently includes 13 Middle Eastern cities served by 191 weekly flights. With renewed operations to Syria, the airline is reinforcing its role in reconnecting the region and supporting long-term development through global aviation.
