Empowering Antarctic Adventure for All Women Journeys

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Wild Women Expeditions and Aurora Expeditions have joined forces to launch an exclusive all-woman Antarctic journey designed entirely by women, for women. The expedition, titled “Antarctic Women’s Expedition: Fly the Drake,” is set to redefine adventure travel by combining exploration, conservation, and empowerment on the icy continent.
This historic 10-day expedition is scheduled to kick off on February 23, 2027, beginning in Punta Arenas, Chile. Participants will fly from Punta Arenas to King William Island, where they will embark on the Sylvia Earle—an innovative, carbon-neutral vessel named after the famed marine biologist, oceanographer, and explorer. The ship not only pays homage to Dr. Sylvia Earle but also honors six other pioneering women in science: Dr. Carden Wallace, Joanna Ruxton, Sharon Kwok, Bernadette Demientieff, Dr. Asha de Vos, and Hanli Prinsloo. Public decks on the vessel will showcase the remarkable contributions of these trailblazing women, shining a spotlight on their efforts in conservation and research.
“This expedition is not just about exploring one of the world’s last frontiers; it’s about recognizing and celebrating the vital role that women have played in advancing science, sustainability, and exploration,” said Jennifer Haddow, CEO of Wild Women Expeditions. “We couldn’t be more proud or excited to be part of this historic journey, which marks a significant moment in history for women adventurers worldwide.”
Throughout the journey, guests will have the unique opportunity to witness Antarctica’s breathtaking wildlife and landscapes. Among the wildlife highlights are penguin chicks developing their adult plumage and learning to swim, leopard seals basking on ice floes, and orcas patrolling the frigid waters. Additionally, participants may see increasing numbers of migrating whales, offering an extraordinary glimpse into the region’s natural rhythms.
The expedition itinerary includes a variety of immersive shore excursions designed to connect travelers with the raw beauty of Antarctica. Guests can enjoy guided hikes, Zodiac cruises, and water-based activities such as kayaking, each providing an intimate look at the continent’s awe-inspiring scenery. These activities are crafted to promote not only adventure and exploration but also education on the importance of environmental conservation and the historical contributions of women in the field.
Wild Women Expeditions has tailored this once-in-a-lifetime adventure exclusively for bold women eager to push boundaries and explore uncharted territories. The collaboration with Aurora Expeditions brings together decades of expertise in luxury adventure travel and sustainable tourism, ensuring that every aspect of the journey—from onboard experiences to land-based excursions—is executed with meticulous attention to detail and a deep commitment to conservation.
At the conclusion of the expedition, guests will disembark on King William Island and fly via charter back to Punta Arenas. This seamless travel experience is designed to maximize comfort and safety while allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in the spirit of exploration.
This pioneering all-women Antarctic expedition stands as a testament to the enduring impact of women’s contributions in science, exploration, and environmental advocacy. It invites adventurous women to celebrate their achievements, forge new paths, and lead the way into a future where curiosity, collaboration, and community continue to inspire change.
