Ethiopian Airlines Boosts Fleet Efficiency with GE9X Engines for New Boeing 777X Aircraft

Ethiopian Airlines, in a landmark deal, has selected GE Aerospace to supply 16 GE9X engines, marking a significant upgrade for its forthcoming fleet of Boeing 777X aircraft. This agreement not only establishes Ethiopian Airlines as the inaugural African customer for the cutting-edge GE9X engines but also signifies a continuation of the longstanding and fruitful partnership between the airline and GE Aerospace.

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Service at GE Aerospace, expressed pride in the agreement, stating, “GE Aerospace is honoured to power Ethiopian Airlines’ new Boeing 777X fleet with our latest generation technology GE9X engine. Today’s order represents the next chapter in our successful partnership that has spanned decades and ensures Ethiopian Airlines continues to be at the forefront of commercial aviation.”

The Boeing 777X stands out as the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine jet, known for its exceptional fuel efficiency, which surpasses competitors by 10%. It also boasts the lowest emissions and operational costs in its category, setting a new standard for environmental and economic performance.

Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, commented on the partnership’s enduring legacy and its future prospects, saying, “Ethiopian Airlines and GE Aerospace have a long partnership, and today we are continuing that into the future with this order of GE9X engines to power our Boeing 777X fleet.
