At the Routes World 2024 event in Bahrain, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue Officer, Arik De, announced plans to launch an entirely new Airbus A380 route in the near future. Additionally, the airline will bring an extra A380 out of storage, marking the seventh A380 to rejoin the Etihad fleet.

According to Aerospace Global News, De revealed that a fifth A380 route would be announced soon, and it will be a destination that Etihad has never served before with the superjumbo. Currently, the airline operates the A380 on routes to London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH).

Etihad is set to launch a new A380 route to Paris in November 2024, and from February 1, 2025, the airline will also begin serving Singapore with the iconic aircraft. In September 2024, Etihad introduced the A380 on select routes to India from Abu Dhabi for a special four-month period.

The recently reactivated A380 left Teruel Airport (TEV) in Spain on September 13, 2024, where it had been stored since March 2020. The resurgence of the A380 is being seen as a positive trend, with passengers and airlines showing renewed interest in the largest commercial aircraft as operators decide to return them to service.
