European Aviation Enters VIP Market with Boeing 737 BBJ

UK-based European Aviation has entered the VIP aviation sector with the acquisition of a Boeing 737-700(BBJ), marking its first foray into the ultra-premium market. Managing Director Trevor Whetter told ch-aviation that the 19-year-old Guernsey-registered aircraft, 2-BIGG, is scheduled to begin service in March 2026, pending the availability of two CFM56-7B engines, which the company is actively seeking to lease or purchase.

Whetter explained that the Boeing Business Jet’s extended range and high-end cabin interior were key factors in the acquisition, which aligns with European Aviation’s long-term strategy. Configured for up to 13 passengers, the aircraft previously operated with Global Jet Luxembourg as LX-MBJ before being parked in Dubai in March 2022. It was remarketed by Volare Aviation and ferried to Guernsey in May 2025 before arriving at Oxford Kidlington, where it remains parked.

European Aviation plans to base the BBJ in the UK and is currently in discussions to place it under a third-party air operator’s certificate. Whetter said the company aims to overcome current engine sourcing challenges to meet the March 2026 entry-into-service target.

This move into the VIP market marks European Aviation’s third major venture. Its previous ventures include European Aircharter, which ceased operations in 2008, and European Cargo, launched in 2021 and operating six A340-600(P2F) freighters. Whetter hinted at additional projects to be announced soon. The company also owns an A340-300, an A340-600, and two non-airworthy Boeing 737-300s, expanding its footprint across multiple aviation niches.
