European Tourism Summit in Seville Tackles Seasonality Issues

Tourism leaders will converge in Seville on April 7 for the inaugural European Tourism Seasonality Summit, a groundbreaking event designed to tackle the growing issue of overtourism and foster sustainable practices across the industry. The summit, organized by Routes and Low Season Traveller, will unite key stakeholders from the travel, leisure, destination, technology, and hospitality sectors to collaborate on actionable strategies that aim to reshape the traditional tourism seasonality curve. The goal is to promote more balanced and responsible tourism growth throughout Europe.

The summit’s speakers include a diverse range of influential voices. Adolfo Reyes, Head of Membership & Associates at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), and Miguel Gallego, Head of Marketing and Communication at the European Travel Commission, will join a list of experts, such as André Miguel dos Santos Varges Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Association, and Emilio José Inés Villar, Head of International Tourism at The Data Appeal Company. Other notable speakers include Tarek Habib, CEO of Murmuration, and Andrea Grisdale, CEO of IC Bellagio, along with leaders from Visit Oulu, Visit Ljubljana, and the Eudaimonia Tourism Non-Profit Organisation. These experts will share their insights on the future of European tourism.

The focus of the summit is on addressing the rising demand for sustainable tourism practices, which are increasingly seen as essential to reducing the negative impacts of peak-season travel on local communities. As travel demand intensifies, there is a growing push for greater adoption of off-peak and shoulder-season opportunities. The event will explore strategies to flatten the seasonality curve, ensuring that tourism flows remain steady year-round.

Key topics on the agenda will include how to mitigate the economic pressures and inflation that influence travel decisions, as well as initiatives that encourage demand for off-peak travel. The role of data analytics and AI in identifying untapped markets and optimizing route networks to support year-round tourism will also be discussed. Furthermore, the summit will examine Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions, exploring how these technologies could enhance connectivity between major hubs and secondary or tertiary destinations.
