Taiwan’s EVA Air has solidified its commitment to enhancing its fleet by finalizing an order with Airbus for eighteen A350-1000s and fifteen A321-200Ns. This firm order, announced by Airbus on January 9, 2024, follows the initial declaration of intent made in November 2023. EVA Air plans to use the A350-1000s to upgrade its long-haul fleet, while the A321neo aircraft will be deployed on North Asian routes.

EVA Air President Clay Sun commented on the selection, emphasizing the airline’s focus on modern, fuel-efficient aircraft that offer high levels of passenger comfort. “We have chosen the Airbus aircraft after a comprehensive evaluation of various models in each market segment,” he said.

Cathay Pacific is currently the only Asia-based operator of the A350-1000. Globally, six other carriers operate the type, including Qatar Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air Caraibes Atlantique, British Airways, French Bee, and Etihad Airways. Prior to EVA Air’s confirmation, Airbus had 134 A350-1000s on order with 78 delivered.

The A321-200N, a variant of the A321neo, enjoys popularity among airline customers, with 94 in service across 10 Asia-based carriers and 130 flying with 18 airlines worldwide. Airbus’s order data, which consolidates all A321neo variants, showed a backlog of 4,403 orders as of November 30, 2023.

EVA Air operates a diverse fleet of 90 aircraft, flying to 55 destinations in 22 countries. The fleet includes A321-200s, A330-200s, A330-300s, ACJ318-100s, ACJ319-100s, Boeing 777-200Fs, Boeing 777-300ERs, Boeing 787-10s, and Boeing 787-9s. This new order reflects EVA Air’s ongoing commitment to fleet modernization and expansion, positioning the airline for continued growth in the competitive Asian and global aviation markets.
