EVA Air is celebrating a decade of nonstop service between Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), marking the milestone with a commemorative event at the Houston Zoo. The Taiwanese airline, which remains the only carrier from Taiwan to serve Houston, launched the route in 2015 with three weekly flights and has since expanded it to daily service.

The 10-year anniversary celebration highlighted the close partnership between EVA Air and the City of Houston. Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum presented EVA Air President Clay Sun with an official ‘Proclamation’—the highest recognition from Houston’s city government to a private company. The award honors EVA Air’s contributions to the city’s tourism, economic growth, and cultural exchange with Taiwan. EVA Air, in turn, gifted a model of its Boeing 777-300ER to symbolize its commitment to the relationship.

Since the route’s inception, EVA Air has worked closely with Visit Houston to promote bilateral travel and business opportunities. President Clay Sun emphasized that the carrier’s strong regional network, connecting via Taipei to key destinations across Asia, has helped maintain an average 90% load factor on the Houston–Taipei route.

The milestone coincides with the 64th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Houston and Taipei. In celebration, EVA Air and the Taipei City Government have launched a campaign titled “Taipei! Your Next Adventure,” inviting Houstonians to explore the dynamic capital of Taiwan.

Further strengthening ties, the Houston Zoo is gifting a male bongo antelope to the Taipei Zoo. EVA Air will sponsor and oversee the animal’s safe transport to Taiwan, reinforcing both cities’ dedication to conservation and cultural cooperation. Houston is home to one of the largest Taiwanese communities in the United States, with more than 80,000 Taiwanese residents in the region.
