Explora II Successfully Completes Sea Trials, Sets Sail for Maiden Voyage in August
Explora Journeys, the luxury lifestyle cruise brand of MSC Group, has announced the successful completion of sea trials for its newest ship, Explora II. This significant milestone paves the way for the vessel’s debut voyage on August 11, departing from Barcelona.
The introduction of Explora II follows the launch of the brand’s first ship, Explora I, last year, marking a key expansion in MSC Group’s cruise division. “The realization of a long-held family dream to offer guests an unmatched luxury at sea experience,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Group’s cruise division. With the addition of Explora II, discerning travelers will have the opportunity to enjoy carefully curated itineraries both in the Western and Eastern Mediterranean during the summer of 2024, embarking from easily accessible ports and exploring lesser-known destinations.
The Explora II is designed to offer an intimate and luxurious experience, accommodating up to 922 guests in 461 staterooms, each averaging 452 square feet. The ship boasts 178,680 square feet of public space spread across 14 decks, featuring six restaurants, 12 bars and lounges, three outdoor pools, an indoor pool with a retractable roof, an indoor hydrotherapy pool, and 64 private cabanas.
In addition to its opulent amenities, Explora II incorporates advanced sustainability technologies. These include a selective catalytic reduction system that significantly reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90%, an advanced wastewater treatment system, shore power connectivity, and sophisticated recycling and solid waste management systems. The ship is also equipped with noise-reducing features to minimize its impact on marine wildlife.
Destinations for Explora II’s inaugural season include glamorous locales such as Portofino, Porto Cervo, St-Tropez, Calvi, Mahon, and Monte Carlo, with itineraries ranging from seven to 21 nights. This blend of luxury and exploration is set to offer an unparalleled experience for travelers seeking exclusivity and adventure on the Mediterranean seas.
