Explora Journeys Marks Key Milestones for New LNG Cruise Ships

Explora Journeys has reached three significant construction milestones for its expanding fleet of luxury cruise ships. During a special event at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard in Genoa, Italy, the cruise line celebrated the float out of EXPLORA III, the steel cutting for EXPLORA V, and a coin ceremony for EXPLORA IV, where Caroline Cooney-Hurrell was named godmother.
“This triple celebration reflects the strength of our vision and the power of collaboration between our team, our partners at Fincantieri, and the Aponte-Vago family,” said Anna Nash, president of Explora Journeys. “We are creating a legacy of transformative journeys guided by care, respect, and excellence.”
EXPLORA III is on track for delivery in 2026, followed by EXPLORA IV in 2027 and EXPLORA VI in 2028. Once complete, the fleet will consist of six ultra-luxury ships, all featuring cutting-edge sustainability features.
Each vessel will include shore power connectivity to minimize emissions in port, underwater noise management to protect marine ecosystems, and energy-efficient systems designed to reduce fuel consumption and enhance engine performance.
Starting with EXPLORA III, the new builds will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will be compatible with renewable fuels such as bio-LNG and synthetic LNG. EXPLORA V and VI are also being constructed with future-ready fuel cell technology that could convert LNG into hydrogen, enabling zero-emission operations in port.
These innovations align with Explora Journeys’ broader commitment to sustainable cruising and responsible tourism, ensuring the line’s growth leaves a lighter footprint on the planet.
