FAA Explores AI for Enhancing Aviation Safety

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is exploring the integration of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to enhance aviation safety within the National Airspace System (NAS). The FAA has initiated a market research effort to evaluate existing capabilities, identify growth opportunities, and gather industry feedback on deploying AI within its infrastructure.

Currently, the FAA utilizes the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) system, which connects various systems for information analysis and sharing among stakeholders. The envisioned AI system aims to expand insights from existing data sources, providing a comprehensive understanding of factors contributing to high-risk operations.

Key goals outlined by SAM.GOV include:

Interested vendors must submit their applications electronically by July 2nd, 2024, to SafetyDataChallenge@faa.gov.
