FAI Advances Fleet Renewal, Closes Berlin MRO Facility

Germany’s FAI Rent-A-Jet is progressing with its fleet renewal program, replacing older aircraft with newer models while confirming the closure of its maintenance facility at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The Nuremberg-based charter and air ambulance operator plans to transition its fleet of four Learjet 60s, six Challenger 604s, and five Global Express jets to Learjet 60XRs, Challenger 605s, and Global 6000s.

FAI recently added its second Learjet 60XR, registered as D-CFAQ (msn 60-328), to replace one of its older Learjet 60s. The company aims to complete the full replacement of its Learjet 60 fleet with XR variants within the next two years. Similarly, FAI is evaluating Challenger 605 and Global 6000 aircraft to modernize its fleet and improve operational efficiency.

In parallel, FAI announced it will shut down its Berlin Brandenburg MRO operations following failed negotiations with airport authorities over the purchase of land for a new hangar. The existing MRO facility at Berlin, housed in a post-World War II building, no longer meets operational or customer standards, according to company leadership.

Founder and group chairman Siegfried Axtmann cited rising lease costs and the airport’s demand for a long-term agreement as key factors behind the decision. “Continuing at BER was not feasible under the current terms,” he stated.

FAI will continue MRO operations from its main base in Nuremberg, supporting clients not based in Berlin. The move allows the company to focus resources on its expanding aircraft fleet and core business operations.
