Authorities are investigating a recent death aboard Carnival Dream, a Carnival Cruise Line vessel based in Galveston, Texas. While few details have been released, the FBI confirmed it is reviewing the case and working with multiple agencies, though it has not yet determined whether foul play was involved.

The incident occurred on July 23 while the ship was sailing a western Caribbean itinerary that included stops in Costa Maya, Belize, and Cozumel. Passengers reported being awakened by emergency sirens around 3:00 or 4:00 a.m., followed by an announcement requesting medical assistance on the Serenity Deck.

“I can confirm FBI Houston is aware of an incident that occurred around July 23, 2025, on the Carnival Dream cruise ship,” a spokesperson for the FBI’s Houston office told local media. “An FBI maritime liaison agent is coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and the cruise line regarding this incident.”

Carnival Cruise Line issued a statement addressing speculation about the circumstances. “There is no investigation about a suspicious death on Carnival Dream, and it is disappointing to learn that any guests might be spreading rumors about something they know nothing about,” the company said.

The FBI is the lead U.S. agency responsible for investigating deaths and potential crimes at sea when American citizens or ports are involved. Jurisdiction depends on several factors, including where the vessel was located, its embarkation and debarkation points, and the nationalities of those on board.
