Finnair Cancels 100 Flights as July Strikes Begin

Finnair has announced the cancellation of around 100 flights on July 2, 2025, due to industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), disrupting travel plans for approximately 7,000 passengers. The strike, confirmed by the union on June 30, will affect essential ground services at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and marks the latest in a string of labor actions impacting the airline.
Finnair is warning of potential further disruption, as additional strike dates have been set for July 4, 7, 16, 18, 21, and 23. While the airline expects the initial strike on July 2 to cause the most significant impact, future actions could still lead to delays and cancellations, particularly if labor negotiations fail to progress.
A Finnair spokesperson said the airline is currently assessing the operational impact of the upcoming strike days. Customers affected by cancellations will be notified directly, typically 48 hours in advance. Passengers scheduled to travel on July 4 and 7 are already being advised to consider changing their travel plans to avoid disruptions.
The July 2 cancellations follow a similar wave of strike-related disruptions in June, when Finnair was forced to cancel 143 flights on June 17. Ongoing labor disputes have plagued the carrier for several months, as ground services staff continue to press for improved conditions and terms.
Finnair says it is working to minimize passenger inconvenience and is offering flexible rebooking options to those impacted. However, travelers with upcoming plans are urged to monitor communications from the airline closely and consider adjusting their itineraries where possible.
