Finnair Returns to Toronto With New Canada Flights

Finnair is making its long-awaited return to Canada with new nonstop flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport, scheduled to launch on May 4, 2026. This marks the airline’s first service to the country in over a decade, as the Finnish flag carrier last operated flights to Toronto in the summer of 2015. The announcement was officially confirmed by Finnair on June 11, 2025, signaling a significant expansion of its transatlantic network and renewed focus on the North American market.
The new service will feature Finnair’s Airbus A330-300 aircraft, offering three weekly flights between Helsinki and Toronto. Departures from Helsinki are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays at 16:50 local time, with arrivals in Toronto set for 18:35 local time following an approximately nine-hour journey. Return flights will operate later in the evening, allowing travelers flexible options for connections and onward travel. The schedule is designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers seeking direct and efficient access between Finland and Canada.
Christine Rovelli, Finnair’s Chief Revenue Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the airline’s Canadian relaunch. She emphasized the growing demand for travel between Europe and Canada and highlighted Toronto’s appeal as a key gateway for European customers looking to explore not only the city but also other regions across Canada. Rovelli stated that the addition of Toronto strengthens Finnair’s position in the competitive North American market while expanding options for travelers on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Toronto service joins Finnair’s growing list of North American destinations for the 2026 summer season, which includes New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle. This expansion underscores Finnair’s broader strategy to enhance its long-haul operations and meet the increasing demand for transatlantic travel. The airline has been gradually rebuilding and growing its network as global travel recovers, with a particular focus on providing seamless connections between Europe and North America through its Helsinki hub.
Beyond North America, Finnair is also boosting its intra-European network for summer 2026. The airline will increase flight frequencies to several Nordic capitals, including Stockholm and Copenhagen, which will each receive seven additional weekly flights. Reykjavik will see two more weekly frequencies, offering passengers greater flexibility and more convenient travel options across the Nordic region.
In addition to these network enhancements, Finnair had previously announced in April 2025 a new domestic route connecting Alta and Kittilä. This service operates five times weekly and will continue through October 22, 2026, further strengthening Finnair’s presence in the domestic Finnish market and supporting regional connectivity.
Finnair’s return to Toronto represents a significant milestone in its growth strategy, reflecting both strong demand and the airline’s commitment to expanding its global reach. As Finnair continues to diversify its route offerings, passengers can expect more options and greater convenience when traveling between Europe, North America, and beyond.
