Fired FAA Technicians and Inspectors Reinstated After Court Ruling

A total of 132 probationary technicians, inspectors, and maintenance workers have been reinstated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) a month after their dismissal. The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) union confirmed that the workers will return to their positions on Thursday following a judge’s order last week.

Illegal Dismissal and Reinstatement

The employees, who were let go on February 14, were among thousands of probationary government workers terminated across various federal agencies. However, the court ruled their dismissal unlawful, leading to their reinstatement and compensation for the month they were out of work.

PASS President David Spero praised the ruling, stating, “This is a win for public safety and for a critical workforce dedicated to the FAA’s mission. Haphazardly eliminating positions and encouraging resignations creates a demoralizing effect on the workforce.”

Impact on Employment Records

When initially dismissed, the affected workers received letters stating their job performance was “not in the public interest.” These statements will now be removed from their employment records, clearing their professional standing.

The reinstatement underscores the importance of due process in government employment and ensures the FAA maintains a strong and experienced workforce dedicated to aviation safety.
