Fly Angola Restores Key Domestic Routes from Lubango

Fly Angola has resumed domestic operations between Luanda and Lubango in Huíla province, restarting service on April 1 after a 20-month suspension. The move marks a significant step in the airline’s efforts to rebuild its domestic network across Angola.
Beginning March 31, Fly Angola also launched flights from Lubango to three additional destinations: three times weekly to Cabinda, once weekly to Benguela, and once weekly to Windhoek in Namibia. CEO Belarnicio Muangala confirmed that Fly Angola is the only airline currently offering direct service on these routes.
The inaugural Luanda–Lubango flight was operated with a Beechcraft 1900D aircraft chartered from Sonair due to temporary unavailability of Fly Angola’s Embraer E145 fleet. However, the E145s will be used on all regular scheduled flights going forward.
Fly Angola had halted all domestic flights on August 18, 2023, due to economic challenges, including a weakened Angolan kwanza. This left TAAG Angola Airlines as the only carrier operating scheduled domestic flights in the country during the suspension.
The airline’s fleet includes two Embraer E145 jets. One is subleased from International Aircraft Holdings FZCO in Dubai, and the other is owned by Gestomobil. Both aircraft are expected to play a key role in restoring Fly Angola’s route network.
Regionally, Fly Angola has expanded service to Namibia. As of March 31, the airline operates two weekly flights from Luanda to Windhoek, three from Cabinda, and one from Lubango, enhancing connectivity between Angola and Namibia.
