flyadeal Celebrates 40th Aircraft Milestone with New A320neo

Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier flyadeal has taken delivery of its 40th aircraft, a brand-new Airbus A320neo, marking a significant fleet milestone less than eight years after launching operations. The delivery ceremony took place at Airbus’ assembly facility in Toulouse, France, where 13 flyadeal employees—including crew and competition winners—were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour before joining the delivery flight to Jeddah.
During the handover event, Airbus executives symbolically passed the aircraft keys to flyadeal’s Director of Operations, Captain Naif Almatrafi. The new A320neo then flew a six-hour journey to the airline’s base in Jeddah.
“This is an incredibly proud moment for the flyadeal family,” said CEO Steven Greenway. “To reach 40 aircraft in under eight years is an amazing achievement and a strong foundation as we continue to grow with ambition.” Greenway also emphasized the unique experience offered to staff, calling the delivery flight a “dream trip” and thanking Airbus for its support.
flyadeal, a subsidiary of Saudia Group, has operated primarily Airbus A320 family aircraft since its launch in 2017. The A320neo has become the backbone of its fleet due to its fuel efficiency, operational reliability, and punctuality. According to Captain Abdulaziz Bahri, Chief Operating Officer, the A320neo has played a crucial role in helping flyadeal maintain above-industry-average on-time performance. In June 2025, flyadeal was recognized as the world’s most punctual airline.
The airline has also occasionally wet-leased A330s and entered a strategic partnership with Cebu Pacific in May 2025, leasing two A320s from the Philippine low-cost carrier to support its network expansion.
Looking ahead, flyadeal is preparing for its largest fleet growth yet. In 2024, the airline placed an order for 51 additional Airbus aircraft, including 12 more A320neos and 39 A321neos, with deliveries beginning in 2027. The expansion underscores flyadeal’s ambitions to strengthen its presence in Saudi Arabia’s growing aviation sector and expand further across the Middle East and beyond.
