Ford is gearing up to unveil its latest electric vehicle this week, teasing enthusiasts with the promise that “the legend is back.” Scheduled for debut on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Ford’s newest EV marks a significant revival in its lineup.

Following the successful launch of the electric Explorer, the first model under its partnership with Volkswagen utilizing the MEB platform, Ford is now set to introduce the Capri. This electric SUV coupe pays homage to Ford’s iconic Capri, which amassed over 400,000 sales within its initial two years and left a lasting legacy in automotive history.

After an absence of 38 years from the market, the Capri returns as a modern sports crossover, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology. Ford has been building anticipation with teaser campaigns, including a recent social media post featuring a video of a Capri 2.8 Injection fuel cap being replaced with a charger, adorned with the message “The legend is back” and the unveiling date.

Ford’s new electric lineup continues to expand under its partnership with Volkswagen, leveraging the MEB platform’s capabilities. The electric Explorer, for instance, boasts specs comparable to VW’s ID.4 and ID.5 models, offering a WLTP range of up to 374 miles (600 km) with its dual-motor configuration and 79 kWh battery producing up to 335 hp.

The Explorer’s starting price in Europe is £45,875 ($58,000), with a more affordable standard range model expected later this year around £39,875 ($50,000). Ford’s strategic shift at its Cologne plant, retiring the Fiesta to accommodate production of the electric Explorer and Capri EV, underscores its commitment to electric mobility and market expansion.

As Ford prepares to unveil the Capri, expectations are high among automotive enthusiasts eager to see how the legacy of this beloved model is reinterpreted in an era dominated by electric vehicles. Stay tuned for the official unveiling, where Ford will showcase its vision for the future of electric mobility with the return of the Capri as a cornerstone of its electrification strategy.

This unveiling marks not only a new chapter for Ford but also a significant milestone in the evolution of electric vehicles, blending heritage with innovation to meet the demands of modern consumers and driving enthusiasts alike.
