Former PIA managers in corruption, embezzlement scandal
A state probe into PIA – Pakistan International Airlines (PK, Islamabad Quaid-e-Azam Int’l) has revealed embezzlement and corruption worth billions of rupees, according to Baaghi TV. The report says charges are to be brought against members of the former management of PIA after the corporate crime investigation arm of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched two investigations into PIA over allegations of financial corruption and embezzlement. The investigations followed a financial audit report of PIA. Cases are to be lodged against the former management of PIA “for causing damage to the national exchequer” and “arrests of more senior PIA officers are expected”, the report said. The FIA in October arrested former managing director Aijaz Haroon, former director (human resources) Mohammad Haneef Pathan, and former deputy managing director Salim Sayani over the alleged irregular appointment of Sayani.
