Frontier Airlines Accelerates Expansion in Atlanta

Frontier Airlines is ramping up its presence at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), posting a 40% year-over-year increase in departures and unveiling nine new routes. This major push builds on the airline’s focus on ATL, which was established as a focus city in 2015 and further strengthened with the launch of a crew base in November 2021. With plans to boost employment at ATL to over 1,200 staff members this year, Frontier is set to solidify its position as a key player in the region.

Currently the third-largest operator at ATL—with a 4.5% seat capacity share behind industry giants Delta Air Lines (77.4%) and Southwest Airlines (7.4%)—Frontier is expanding its network to 52 destinations by early July 2025. The new routes, launching throughout May and June 2025, will increase weekly departures from ATL to approximately 363, up from about 250 during the same period in 2024.

Among the nine new routes, Frontier is introducing nonstop flights to Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) and San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) in Honduras. The expansion also includes services to popular domestic leisure markets in Florida, such as Fort Myers, Jacksonville, and Palm Beach. On these new routes, Frontier will be competing directly with Delta and, in some cases, Southwest and Spirit Airlines.

As the third-largest airline in Atlanta, Frontier’s investment in this market is a testament to the strength of our airport, our city and our shared vision for continued growth,” said Jan Lennon, interim general manager at ATL.

The following table summarizes Frontier Airlines’ planned network expansion from Atlanta:

This expansion is part of a broader strategy that also includes the launch of 14 additional routes from Washington Dulles International Airport and Miami International Airport this spring. With ATL set to become the third-largest airport in Frontier’s network this summer—offering over 1.3 million available departure seats, trailing only Denver and Orlando—the airline is poised to capture growing leisure and business travel demand in the region.

Frontier’s aggressive expansion in Atlanta not only reinforces its commitment to a strategic hub in a major domestic market but also provides enhanced connectivity to key international leisure destinations, fueling continued growth in an increasingly competitive aviation landscape.
