Frontier Airlines Secures Leaseback Deal for 15 A320neo Jets
Frontier Airlines, based at Denver International Airport, has finalized a sale-and-leaseback deal with BOC Aviation for 15 Airbus A320-200neo aircraft, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026. This arrangement is part of a larger order from Airbus, comprising 195 next-generation narrowbody jets, including forty-nine A320-200neo and 146 A321-200NX models. This positions Frontier as a significant contributor to the aviation industry’s shift toward more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient aircraft.
Despite deferring the delivery of 54 aircraft initially set between 2025 and 2028 to between 2029 and 2031, Frontier maintains its growth trajectory. The airline plans to enhance its fleet with eight A320neo, thirteen A321neo, and four new engines in 2025, followed by additional acquisitions in 2026.
Robert Fanning, Vice President of Fleet at Frontier Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of the new A320neos, noting their role in supporting the airline’s expansion and its commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet. Meanwhile, Steven Townend, CEO of BOC Aviation, underscored the transaction’s value, enhancing their revenue base and expanding their fleet with the latest generation aircraft.
Currently, Frontier’s fleet includes 151 aircraft, with a significant portion leased from various lessors, a common strategy among ultra-low-cost carriers to maintain flexibility and reduce capital expenditures. This latest deal not only reinforces Frontier’s relationship with BOC Aviation, which has already placed two A320-200 aircraft with the airline but also marks a substantial step in its ongoing efforts to align with industry advancements in sustainability and operational efficiency.
