Frontier Airlines has selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power 91 new Airbus A321neo aircraft, further solidifying its partnership with engine manufacturer RTX. The announcement was made on June 16, 2025, during the opening day of the Paris Air Show 2025.

In addition to engine selection, Pratt & Whitney will provide long-term maintenance services to support Frontier’s fleet, ensuring optimal performance and operational reliability. The first aircraft from this latest order is expected to be delivered in Q4 2026.

This agreement increases Frontier’s total commitment to 235 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft, including existing aircraft already in service. The Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier currently operates the largest and youngest A320neo family fleet in the United States, positioning itself as a leader in fuel-efficient, next-generation air travel.

The new A321neo aircraft will be powered by the latest evolution of the GTF engine—the GTF Advantage. According to RTX, the GTF Advantage offers increased takeoff thrust, improved fuel efficiency, and extended time on wing, making it the most advanced propulsion option available for single-aisle aircraft. The engine will become the production standard over the next few years and will be included in all new Frontier A321neo deliveries.

“Four years ago, we welcomed Frontier Airlines to the Pratt & Whitney GTF family, and this selection demonstrates the airline’s confidence in the GTF engine,” said Rick Deurloo, President of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney. “With this latest order, Frontier will continue to realize the benefits of the most fuel-efficient engine for single-aisle aircraft, and we will continue to support Frontier and their operations in the coming decades.”

The GTF engine, introduced by Pratt & Whitney as part of a new generation of geared turbofan technology, is known for delivering double-digit reductions in fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and noise footprint compared to previous engine models. This aligns with Frontier’s long-term goals for environmental sustainability and cost efficiency.

Frontier’s continued investment in the A320neo family, paired with the GTF Advantage engine, enhances the airline’s commitment to offering affordable and eco-conscious air travel. The airline has made strides in improving fuel burn per seat, thanks to both its fleet composition and operating model, making it one of the most fuel-efficient carriers in North America.

With this expanded agreement, RTX and Frontier are deepening their collaboration at a time when airlines are increasingly focused on fleet modernization, operational resilience, and sustainable aviation practices. The long-term service component of the deal also reinforces Pratt & Whitney’s role in supporting the airline beyond engine delivery.

As demand for single-aisle aircraft continues to rise globally, particularly in the ultra-low-cost segment, this deal positions Frontier Airlines to meet future growth while staying on the leading edge of performance and environmental standards.
