CAMEX Airlines (Tbilisi) has applied to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA) for an air operator’s certificate (AOC) after securing investors and funding.

Forbes reported that the start-up is looking to leverage Georgia’s geographical position to develop Tbilisi into an intercontinental cargo hub. CAMEX Airlines is currently in talks with international leasing companies and plans to operate four freighters by the end of 2022.

A company spokesman has since confirmed to ch-aviation that it will operate a mixed fleet of up to six B737-800 and B767-300 freighters.

The GCAA has since confirmed the AOC drive started in October.

CAMEX International, backing the airline, has extensive experience in the Georgian freight forwarding and package delivery sector.

According to the ch-aviation PRO airlines module, Georgia is home to several established cargo airlines, including AMS Airlines (dormant), Georgian Airways Cargo, Easy Charter, and Geo-Sky.
