In a nod to the golden days of long-haul aviation, luxury tour operator Captain’s Choice is offering an exclusive air cruise that reimagines the classic Kangaroo Route between Sydney and London. Departing Sydney on February 3, 2026, this one-off charter promises a nostalgic 14-day journey aboard a Qantas Airbus A330-300, complete with seven memorable stops along the way. By the late 1940s, the introduction of the Lockheed Super Constellation in the Qantas fleet reduced the journey to 54 flight hours and seven stops, offering a new level of luxury on one of the longest scheduled routes at the time. The advent of the jet age in the 1960s saw the Boeing 707 further cut travel time and stops, and today, the journey can be completed in around 20 hours with a single stop by modern fleets of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners or Airbus A380s. However, while many passengers now opt for the fastest route, Captain’s Choice is inviting those who appreciate the romance of travel to slow down and savor the journey.
This specially curated air cruise will take guests from Sydney through a series of captivating cities, including Darwin, Singapore, Kolkata, Colombo, Cairo, Rome, and Toulouse, before concluding in London on February 17, 2026. At each stop, guests will be accommodated in luxury hotels and offered a range of curated excursions that showcase local culture and history. One of the highlights of the tour is an Airbus factory tour in Toulouse, a fitting tribute to the aircraft’s heritage and a chance for enthusiasts to witness where the iconic A330 was built.
Onboard the chartered A330, the main cabin is configured in a 2-4-2 layout for economy class, but with a twist: only two of the middle seats will be sold, giving passengers more room to relax. Every guest is guaranteed an aisle or window seat, with seat allocations rotated per flight segment. In addition to the generous seating arrangement, all travelers will enjoy business class catering throughout the journey, regardless of seating category. For those seeking an even more elevated experience, a limited number of business class seats are available at a supplemental cost.
