Google Enhances Travel Tools With New AI-Powered Features

Google has rolled out a suite of AI-powered updates to its travel tools, enhancing trip planning, hotel booking, and destination discovery. Announced via a blog post, the updates include video demos and are now available across mobile and desktop platforms.
A major highlight is the global launch of hotel price tracking, similar to Google Flights. Travelers can now monitor hotel rates over time to book at the right moment. This feature is live on both desktop and mobile browsers.
Google Maps is also introducing a new “screenshot” list feature. When enabled, and with access to a user’s camera roll, Gemini—Google’s AI assistant—automatically identifies and highlights locations seen in saved screenshots. The feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. in English for iOS users, with Android support to follow.
AI Overviews is being upgraded to assist with travel itinerary creation. Users can plan trips by region or country and export suggestions directly from the tool. This is now live for English-language queries in the U.S. on both mobile and desktop.
Google’s Gems feature is also now available for free. Gems are custom AI trip planners that help users discover destinations, create packing lists, and find local restaurants.
Additionally, Google Lens will expand language support for AI Overviews, adding Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in most countries. Users can point their phone cameras at objects, ask questions, and receive real-time AI insights.
These updates reflect Google’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI into all aspects of travel planning.
