Greece’s SwiftAir Hellas adds first E120
SwiftAir Hellas (MDF, Athens Int’l) has added its first in-house EMB-120RT(F) in the form of SX-AQI (msn 120063), an aircraft previously operated by the Greek carrier’s Spanish parent, Swiftair (WT, Madrid Barajas).
The 33.9-year-old Embraer turboprop freighter was last operated by Swiftair on July 30 from Tirana to Athens Int’l. The aircraft had been wet-leased to SwiftAir Hellas since June 2021, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It was subsequently parked for all of August and reactivated on September 8, 2021, flying from Athens to Lemnos with its new Greek registration.
Thus far, the Greek airline has operated three in-house Metroliner(F)s.
SwiftAir Hellas (formerly known as Mediterranean Air Freight) continues to wet-lease another E120, EC-HTS (msn 120168), from its parent carrier. It is deployed exclusively between Athens and Thessaloniki. The carrier did not respond to a request for comment on whether it plans to transfer more aircraft to the Greek AOC.
The Spanish airline operates eight E120 freighters, including one quick change variant EMB-120RT(QC). Its fleet also comprises six ATR42-300(F)s, one ATR72-200, eight ATR72-200(F)s, eight ATR72-500s, one ATR72-500(F), one B737-300(F), one B737-400(F), ten B737-400(SF)s, two B757-200(PCF)s, and one B757-200(PF).
