Gulfstream G550 Private Jet Fleet Celebrates One Millionth Landing After 20 Years in Service
In a milestone announcement on August 2, 2023, Gulfstream celebrates the completion of one million landings by its G550 private jet fleet, which has been in service for two decades. The aviation company lauds the aircraft’s exceptional durability, which has also contributed to logging an impressive 2.6 million flight hours.
Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream, expressed his pride in the G550’s continuous achievements and its ever-growing list of accolades. He attributes this success to the aircraft’s outstanding quality and the cutting-edge technology introduced by Gulfstream, which has set the stage for their next-generation fleet. The G550’s reliability is further fortified by Gulfstream’s global Customer Support network, ensuring continued service excellence.
Among its pioneering features, the G550 introduced Gulfstream’s Enhanced Vision System, now known as Enhanced Flight Vision System, which earned it the prestigious National Aeronautic Association’s 2003 Collier Trophy. This revolutionary system has since been incorporated into other models like the G280, G650, G650ER, G400, G500, and G600. The latest G700 and G800 models boast an even more advanced Combined Vision System, combining Enhanced Flight Vision System and Synthetic Vision System to enhance pilot situational awareness.
Gulfstream holds the distinction of being the first original equipment manufacturer to obtain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for certified operators to utilize the Enhanced Flight Vision System for touchdown and rollout, enhancing safety and operational capabilities.
The G550’s performance is driven by its two Rolls-Royce BR710 engines, enabling a range of 6,750 nautical miles at Mach 0.80, positioning it as a top performer in its class. The spacious cabin offers versatile configurations, accommodating up to 19 passengers and providing sleeping arrangements for up to eight individuals.
Over the years, the G550 has undergone modifications for various government applications, including aeromedical evacuation, head-of-state transport, airborne early warning, atmospheric research, and maritime patrol, making it a versatile and reliable choice for mission-critical operations.
Since its introduction in 2003, more than 600 G550 aircraft have been in service, testifying to its enduring popularity and continued success in the business aviation sector.
