Gulfstream Rolls Out Final G650 as G800 Debuts
In a historic moment for the aviation industry, Gulfstream Aerospace has produced the last ever G650 executive jet, marking the end of an era and the dawn of a new chapter with its next-generation G800. On February 12, 2025, the final G650—and its extended-range sibling, the G650ER—rolled off the production line in Savannah, Georgia, after more than a decade of setting the industry benchmark.
This ultra-long-range jet, renowned for its cutting-edge design and exceptional performance, will now undergo the next phase of the completions process at Gulfstream’s Appleton, Wisconsin, facility before making its official delivery to a customer later this year. The G650 family, which includes over 500 aircraft sold since its launch, has amassed an impressive legacy, recently surpassing 1 million flight hours and setting more than 125 world speed records.
Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream Aerospace, reflected on the monumental achievement: “Since their inception, the G650 and G650ER have become the industry standard that all others have followed. Beyond the program’s innumerable accolades and record-breaking achievements, innovations introduced with the form, fit, and precision manufacturing process of the G650 laid the groundwork for today’s next-generation Gulfstream fleet.” His comments underscore the profound impact that the G650 family has had on executive aviation since the first G650 was delivered to its launch customer in 2012. Just two years later, in 2014, Gulfstream expanded the offering with the G650ER, an enhanced variant designed for even greater range.
The legacy of the G650 family is punctuated by numerous record-breaking feats. Notably, in 2015, a G650 completed a world circumnavigation with just one stop—a testament to its reliability and efficiency. The aircraft has also earned recognition from the Guinness World Records for achieving the fastest-ever circle of the Earth around both the north and south poles, further solidifying its reputation as a technological marvel.
Although production of the G650 has now ended, its influence is far from over. “While this will be the final G650 produced, the fleet’s high utilization and dispatch reliability mean these aircraft will serve customers for decades to come,” added Burns. Gulfstream is committed to ensuring that its legacy fleet remains at the forefront of technology. The company will continue to enhance the G650 with advanced upgrades and retrofit programs. Recent enhancements include the integration of the Honeywell Primus Epic Block 3 and the deployment of Starlink high-speed internet—upgrades designed to keep the aging fleet competitive in today’s digital age.
As the industry turns its attention to the forthcoming G800, expectations are high. The G800 is poised to build on the G650’s formidable reputation while offering improved performance, enhanced comfort, and greater efficiency. The new model is slated for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification in the first half of 2025, setting the stage for its entry into service.
Gulfstream’s decision to retire the G650 marks the end of an era for one of the most iconic executive jets in aviation history. Yet, as one chapter closes, another begins with the advent of the G800—a testament to Gulfstream’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in business aviation.
