Haas F1 team reveals rendering of Its 2022 race car

The American-based Formula 1 team spent the 2021 season working on its 2022 VF-22 car as sport gets major regulations reset. The Haas F1 Team made no secret about the fact that the team bailed on a full-scale 2021 Formula 1 effort and diverted much of the team’s resources toward its 2022 effort.

That plan resulted in a scoreless, last-place finish in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. It was the the worst season on track in the team’s six-year history.

The North Carolina-based team is teasing its fans with the first fruits of that labor as it reveals rendering of its VF-22 edition race car for 2022. The car will be driven by returning drivers Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher.

The car is a product of the team’s new design studio in Maranello, Italy, and features new aero regulations and 18-inch wheels mandated for the 2022 F1 season. Those regulations are designed to produce more overtaking—something Haas drivers look forward to this season.

According to the team, the VF-22 will be powered by the Ferrari 066/7 turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 power-unit running on fuel containing a 10% bio-component ratio achieved through a move to E10 fuel.

Team principal Guenther Steiner is also back for 2022. He’s been the point man for the team since its debut in 2016.

All 10 Formula 1 teams will gather to shakedown their new entries at Spain’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya February 23-25. Pre-season testing then moves to the Bahrain International Circuit from March 10-12. The 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship launches with the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix March 20. autoweek.com
