Hainan has granted financial incentives totaling approximately USD 210,000 to concerts by Eason Chan and Jacky Cheung, underscoring the province’s strategy to boost large-scale live entertainment and cultural tourism.

On February 2, the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports issued a public notice detailing incentive awards for the two major concert events. The incentives were granted under provincial implementation guidelines designed to attract high-profile performances and stimulate economic activity.

Eason Chan’s FEAR and DREAMS World Tour stop in Hainan met all eligibility requirements outlined in the policy framework. The concert drew 38,800 ticketed attendees, significantly surpassing the minimum threshold of 30,000. Ticket revenue reached RMB 67.48 million, equivalent to approximately USD 9.71 million, well above the required benchmark of RMB 15 million. As a result, the event qualified for a one-time incentive award of RMB 1 million, or roughly USD 140,000.

Similarly, the Haikou stop of Jacky Cheung’s 60+ Concert Tour met the province’s criteria for financial support. The concert recorded 22,900 ticketed attendees, exceeding the minimum requirement of 20,000. Ticket revenue totaled RMB 43.03 million, or about USD 6.19 million, surpassing the stipulated RMB 10 million threshold. The event therefore qualified for a one-time incentive payment of RMB 500,000, equivalent to approximately USD 70,000.

The incentive structure reflects Hainan’s broader efforts to position itself as a leading destination for major cultural and entertainment events. By linking subsidies to ticket sales and revenue benchmarks, the province aims to attract commercially successful tours while ensuring measurable economic impact.

Since 2024, several regions across China have introduced similar support policies for commercial live performances, particularly large-scale concerts. Cities and provinces including Shanghai, Fujian, Hubei, Guangxi, Chengdu, Taiyuan, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou have implemented financial incentives and streamlined approval processes to encourage event organizers to bring headline acts to their markets.

These measures are designed not only to support the entertainment industry but also to drive tourism, hospitality, and related spending. Large concerts often generate significant demand for hotels, dining, transportation, and retail, creating spillover benefits for local economies.

Hainan’s latest incentive awards signal continued competition among Chinese regions to attract high-profile concerts and strengthen their cultural tourism appeal.
