Hapag-Lloyd Reroutes EUROPA 2 Red Sea Voyages

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced four new itineraries for summer 2027 to replace previously scheduled Red Sea sailings. The changes affect the 500-guest EUROPA 2, which will now operate revised voyages between June 2 and August 3, 2027, avoiding the conflict-prone Red Sea region.
Instead of transiting the Red Sea, EUROPA 2 will take guests on an extended journey from Asia across the Indian Ocean and southern Africa to the western Mediterranean, before resuming its original schedule from Civitavecchia (Rome). The move aligns with a broader trend of cruise lines rerouting ships to ensure passenger safety, as Houthi rebel activity continues to disrupt shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
The newly created itineraries feature immersive experiences and unique destinations. Highlights include overnight stays in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as visits to the volcanic island of Réunion and calls at Cape Town, Maputo, St. Helena, and the Cape Verde Islands. These ports offer guests a chance to explore diverse cultures, wildlife, and landscapes along a rarely combined route.
By reimagining its summer 2027 program, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is not only safeguarding guests but also enhancing its offerings with more exotic and off-the-beaten-path destinations. The line says the revised itineraries will still deliver the hallmark luxury, service, and in-depth exploration that EUROPA 2 passengers expect while avoiding the risks currently facing vessels in the Red Sea.
